On Tuesday afternoon, due to poor air quality, the Double Hoy No Circula was activated in the Valley of Mexico for Wednesday, March 19, causing stress for drivers in Mexico City. The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) reported a maximum ozone concentration of 155 ppb, which could lead to a second Double Hoy No Circula for Thursday, March 20, if atmospheric conditions worsen.
On the morning of Wednesday, March 19, CAMe reported poor air quality with high concentrations of the pollutant PM2.5 in some municipalities of Mexico City such as Gustavo A. Madero and Iztapalapa, as well as in the municipalities of Atenco, Texcoco, Chicoloapan, and La Paz in the State of Mexico. Sensitive individuals are advised to avoid outdoor physical activities and, in general, reduce vigorous outdoor activities.
The ozone season in the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico extends from February to June, when environmental factors such as lack of wind, low humidity, intense solar radiation, and heat favor the prolonged presence of ozone, generating environmental contingencies.
Regarding vehicle restrictions, the Double Hoy No Circula will be applied on Wednesday, March 19, from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM for private vehicles with verification hologram 2, verification hologram 1 with certain ending digits, verification hologram 0 and 00 with red stickers, as well as for vehicles that do not carry a verification hologram. Additionally, the circulation of 50% of the L.P. gas distribution units and some taxis with certain verification holograms will be restricted.
